Day of the Girl 2022: Read Our New White Paper!

Women and girls are among the most affected by climate change, as disproportionate impacts cause significant spikes in gender-based violence, health-related issues, migration status, and mortality rates in the midst of disasters and crises. Shifting the apex of our focus to the needs and leadership of women, girls, and gender-diverse peoples is imperative.

October 10th marked the 10th anniversary of International Day of the Girl. This year’s call to action uplifts greater attention, investment, and action to:
(1) Support the leadership of adolescent girls;
(2) Increase investment and resources for girls—through inclusive education and well-being; and
(3) Improve the access and uptake for inclusive girl-centered services at all times and especially during disasters and crises.

At the Institute for Climate and Peace, we are meeting this call to action by uplifting a body of work that aims to channel the inherent wisdom, power, ingenuity, voices, and leadership of women, mothers, girls, gender-diverse individuals, Indigenous peoples, and intergenerational relationships to create a peaceful and climate-resilient future.

Our newest white paper, The Significance of Women and Mother-led Social Change in the Pacific-Asia Region, examines the urgent need for intersectional, inclusive, and equitable approaches to inform, advance, and sustain better climate solutions and peaceful societies. This research publication encompasses integral facets such as wellness, mental health, multilateral dialogue, education, representation, justice, sound relationships, empathy, culture, and solidarity to re-envision the ways in which we respond to the climate emergency.

Please give it a read, and send it along to those in your network! Connect with us online and share how you are prioritizing girls and young women to become the necessary change leaders who create peaceful and sustainable societies.

Our methods of weaving past, present, and future at ICP forges leadership at all ages and results in uplifting more individuals and organizations to influence peacebuilding on their own. We seek self- and community-directed independence and sufficiency that can be perpetuated over time.

On behalf of ICP, thank you for being a part of our beloved community!
